Calvin’s Theology
The Reformed Summer University is a German-Dutch project, aimed at fostering and promoting Reformed theology in international and interdisciplinary exchanges. It is addressed to all those interested in Reformed theology, especially students. Topics for study will be worked on in a combination of lectures, seminars and opportunities for individual study.

Calvin: Reformer and Saint?
Leading European and North American scholars will discuss the question of whether Calvin really was a reformer and whether he was “saint or sinner”.
During this conference the presentation of the Calvin Handbook (Mohr Siebeck) will take place, as well as the presentation of the new book of Irena Backus (Ashgate) on the image of Calvin in the 16th and 17th century.

The major scholarly event of the „Calvin year“ 2009 in Geneva, this conference will attempt to take the full measure of John Calvin’s historical importance by exploring the extent and limits of his influence across the generations and around the world, from his lifetime until today, in the domains of theology, politics, culture, and social life.

Organizer : the Institut d’Histoire de la Réformation (IHR), the Association Calvin 2009, by the Société du Musée Historique de la Réformation (MHR) and the Faculté autonome de théologie protestante de Genève (FT) ; with assistance from several other organisations.
Contributions are expected from specialists in any field of specialization on any topic that directly engages with Calvin’s real or putative influence, during his lifetime or during the generations following his death.
Each day of the conference will feature both large plenary sessions and numerous smaller panels. Special events are also planned. All interested persons are welcome either to propose a paper or simply to register and attend.
