Overview of Hermeneutics. Hermeneutics, as an interpretation theory, provides
authentic to students' lives, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application (Johnson, 2015). Phenomenology also provides a framework for addressing social justice issues within the South African education system. By adopting a Phenomenological perspective, educators can critically examine power dynamics and structural inequalities that affect students' learning experiences. This involves incorporating diverse perspectives into the curriculum, amplifying marginalized voices, and promoting empathy and solidarity among students. Through such efforts, Phenomenology becomes a catalyst for transformative education, aiming to dismantle systemic injustices and promote a more equitable society (Smith, 2003). In conclusion, Hermeneutic theory and Phenomenology offer valuable insights for improving teaching and learning in South Africa. By embracing these theoretical frameworks, educators can create inclusive learning environments that foster critical thinking, empathy, and cross-cultural understanding among students, ultimately preparing them to navigate a diverse and ever-changing world.
