기독교강요에 나타난 칼빈의 자연계시론
자연계시는 인정했으나 부족함을 지적함, 자연신학은 인정치 않음. 중생한 사람은 자연신학이 가
능함.
칼빈은 하나님께서 인간에게 자신을 알 수 있는 지각과 종교의 씨를 심었다고 주장한다. 이것이
칼빈의 자연계시론이다.
CO 2, 36. Inst. 1, 3. 1. Dei notitiam hominum mentibus naturaliter esse inditam. (The
knowledge of God has been naturally implanted in the mind of men, 하나님을 아는 지식이 인
간의 마음안에 자연적으로 심겨져 있다.)
계속하여 칼빈은 하나님께서 자연적으로 인간의 마음에(정신) 하나님을 아는 지식 즉 자연계시
(일반계시)을 유전자의 코드 처럼 심었다고 주장한다.
"Quemdam inesse humanae menti, et quidem naturali instinctu, divinitatis
sensum( There is within the human mind, and indeed by natural instinct, an
awareness of divinity, 하나님을 아는 것은 자연적인 본능에 의해서 인간의 마음안에 있
다)
따라서 인간은 이미 자연적인 본능으로 이 신지식을(자연계시) 갖고 있다.
sui numinis intelligentiam universis Deus ipse indidit(God himself has implanted in
all men a certain understanding of his divine majesty.
그러므로 칼빈은 말하기를 누구든지 하나님을 모른다고 핑계할 수 없도록 하나님의 위엄을 알 수
있는 이해력을 주셨다고 한다.
인간 모두는 하나님이 계신것과 그가 자신들의 창조자임을 알게된다.
unum omnes intelligant Deum esse, et suum esse opificem (men one and all
perceive that there is a God and that he is their Maker)
칼빈은 여기에서 더나가서 세계종교의 근원에 대하여 논한다. 하나님께서는 모든 백성들에게 종
교의 씨를 주었기 때문에 세계가 존재한 날부터 종교가 있게 되었다고 한다(religionis semen
retinent , to retain some seed of religion).
따라서 종교성이 없는 자는 아무도 없고 심지어 그것을 부인한다고 해도 그것이 없어지지 않는다
고 말한다.
in eo tacita quaedam confessio est, inscriptum omnium cordibus divinitatis sensum (there
lies in this a tacit confession of a sense of deity inscribed in the hearts of all, 모든 인간의 마
음안에 새겨진 하나님의 아는 것에 대한 무언의 고백이 이안에 있다.)
그러나 인간 속에 있는 하나님의 일반계시(자연계시)는 죄로 인하여 오염되었기 때문에 특별계시
인 성경이 필요하게 되었다고 강조한다. Inst 1, 4. 1, 시편 14:1, 53:1에서 "어리석은 자는 그 마음
에 하나님이 없다 하도다." 그들은 자연의 빛을 꺼 버렸다.(suffocata naturae luce, by
extinguishing the light of nature) 악인은 하나님을 부인하는 자들이다.
칼빈의 전통에 서 있는 WCF 1장 1절은 자연의 빛(the light of nature)은 비록 하나님의 선과 지
혜, 권능을 나타남을 말하지만 성경의 필요성을 말한다.
Although the light of nature. . . . do so far manifest the goodness, wisdom and
power of God, (Latin Confessio Fidei, Quanquam naturae lumen. . . . manifestant)
as to leave men inexcusable; yet they are not sufficient to give that knowledge of
God, and of his will, wich is necessary unto salvation. . . . which maketh the Holy
Scripture to be most necessary.
